R50/53 And so we shall build
And so we shall build
Hey minigunners,
Been reading on the site and still have some questions/need help. I just bought an '03 MCS and now have the itch to mod. I saw on the M7 website where they have a stage 3 performance kit that from what I gather, from emailing with m7, is a bolt on kit and pretty sweet.
Comes with-
-16% sc pulley
-Either a 2 or 4% crank pulley
-a 180 thermostat
-their cold air
-and a belt for the sc.
I want to do my sc with a 16/2 setup which is like having an 18% (if I'm not mistaken). I also searched on here for a review on their cold air but couldn't find any details and don't know if that is a good intake. (I currently have a typhoon on it but don't like it). I've also looked in to better injectors and plugs and all that (plan on doing that after I do the SC work) as well as short shifter (these are my short term mod plans)
This car is my DD and I want to have the fastest mini in the area (there is a nice gp around here I'd love to be able to outperform). I've thought about doing some auto cross as well but more want the car to be able to handle fun days on back roads, highways and whatnot with plenty of power and zip. Any thoughts? I'm a newb when it comes to minis but want to learn them badly. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I will be posting throughout my build process

IMO id go for the wmw kit because it uses colder plugs instead of the thermostat, if you live in colder climates the thermostat might run the car too cold. Also I'd steer clear of an I dampened crank pulley, some say its fine some say its failure prone. That's up to you, i prefer mods that have been proven to be safe.
Technology and Einstein's prediction meet headlong. You've got your hands full keeping track of all the advice coming at you from nine different directions. Good luck with this. It would also be a good idea to visit some old threads detailing problems that have arisen from over enthusiastic modding. Sometimes great changes to the car result in great headaches. When seeking advice, a good indicator of wisdom is checking the join date and number of posts of your helpmates.

since your increasing boost, your also going to want to get 1 step colder plugs, that will help a tad when autoXing.
and if you can, get an aftermarket exhaust or one ball it, the stock exhaust is about 60-70lb, where as the alta, magnaflow, borla, scorpion, etc are about 30 lb
and get some aftermarket wheels, depending on what you have, the S lites are actually S heavy's, a whopping 25 lb each wheel and then runflats on them. i went to ultraleggeras which are 16 lbs and no run flats, it was nearly a 80lb difference in rotating mass..... you definently feel that
I found a great post on exhaust and am going to so that as well as the colder plugs. As for the wheel setup I'm running Toyo Extensa HPs (215/45R17 91V M+S on Enkei rims). I know they're not stock but have no idea on the stats.
