$500 Loyalty Credit - Bogus?

I have a 2011 Countryman All4 that I have been and still very happy with. When my wife's Subaru Outback recently blew a head gasket, we decided it was time for something new. Out of every model she looked at, she only liked the Countryman and the Audi A3. When we saw the latest deals from MINI, we decided on the Countryman.

So in the adverts, we see that you can get a $1000 'You-ification' credit on an All4 (which is basically just a rebate back to the dealer) and a $500 loyalty credit that is available for returning MINI customers only. That sounded great until we went to the dealership. We were told that the 'You-ification' rebate was fine but the $500 loyalty credit was only for customers that had had a loan out with BMW Financial Services when they got their prior MINI. I had purchased my Countryman at this same dealership three years ago for cash so I did not qualify.

Can anyone verify that this is in fact the case? No where in the fine print of any of MINI's literature does it say this. Here I was thinking that this really was a MINI 'thing' to do as it says a lot for the brand and customer loyalty.

Thanks.

They are correct. It's for prior or current MINI FS customers ONLY. The money is from MINI FS.....not MINI NA, so it makes sense that its only prior FS customers.

Surely with a trade-in and prior purchase history your dealer could swing $1500 to earn your business. If not then it might be worth your time to shop around.

From a dealers site "$500 You-ification Credit applies to MINI Cooper Countryman, $750 You-ification Credit applies to MINI Cooper S Countryman and $1,000 You-ification Credit applies to MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 and John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 models. $500 Loyalty Credit applies to all MINI Countryman models and is available for returning MINI customers only. All credits are credits against the MSRP of the final loan on a MINI Countryman."

I always find it good marketing that you only get the credit IF you pay full MSRP and use MINI financial!

I would shift your focus away from the loyalty credit and go for total $ off MSRP and/or accessories. Not sure where your located, but you need to get offers from other dealers. Simply call other dealers or use their internet service to see what they will give you. Mini dealers post their exact inventory online. The big metro markets are more willing to simply get a deal done. Smaller dealers know you typically won't go elsewhere. Most dealers give you the "folks are paying sticker" BS. I heard that until I told one manager that is not true and they will start to negotiate. If your dealer thinks they will lose the deal they will give in. I had one dealer start at MSRP and then changed to money off and telling me they fed ex all forms and would even deliver it to me at no charge. Good luck.

I have re-read the special offer description on the miniusa.com site several times as my wife is about to lease a Paceman and it is not saying it is only for prior FS customers. It does say that the new purchase must be financed or leased through MINI FS but the only requirement it has for the prior MINI is "Qualified customer must have owned or leased a MINI within 12 months of the new contract." This description is very deceptive if they are now limiting it to prior MINI FS customers.

It also says "Offer may be combined with other offers unless otherwise stated" so there is no restriction that this only applies to MSRP. I would expect to be able to negotiate a deal and then ask for another $500 loyalty discount after a price is proposed.

I just got this deal

Bought my 2013 Hard Top last May, through a local bank finance. Just picked up my Wife's 2014 CMS and the dealer gave me the $500 discount. All I had to do was show proof of registration.

Same here. Bought a CM in July 2013, paid cash. Just traded it for a 2014 Roadster last weekend, and they gave me the $500 discount.
