2007 Mini cooper exteror lights staying on when engine is on

my 2007 mini cooper s exterior lights stay on when engine is running and switch is turned off. The backup lights are also on all the time it does not matter what gear you are in. I have checked the backup light switch and it checked out ok. tried to turn off running lights but that did nothing. anyone know what else I could check?

Are you talking about the headlights? The headlights can be programmed as "daylight running lights" and will operate in that mode even though the light switch is off. I have one key fob programmed for this mode and one without. Instructions in the owner's manual.

No I know about the day time running lights. I took it to mini dealer and it was a faulty foot well module. That has fixed the problem and it good because when I was there they told me about two recall needed the timing chain recall and the heat shield recall. The timing chain was bad they replaced it and tensioner and had to drop oil pan and clean out metal shaving. Glad timing chain did not jump off and ruin engine.
