Drivetrain A few performance questions....
Guys,
I have an 03 S made in Sept 02, never had any Yo-Yo or stumble problems, only have about 7K on the car. I am bringing the car in this week to get V38, my dealer says they will install it. The only mod I have is Rogue intake, but now I want to make it go fast.
First I want to install a pulley, I guess a 19%. Second from what I have read an exhuast is my next best bet with the pulley. here is my question, I am worried that after I install a Pulley I may see the Yo-yo, is this possible? I am looking for any possible red flags I should consider here before continuing down this path.
Thanks,
james

felix,
Aloha from Hawaii and welcome to NAM.
Getting v.38 and having no stumble and yo-yo is a gamble. You should be OK but we do not know that much about v.38
My dealer recently refused to load v.37 for me over my v.36 because it does nothing to help stumble and yo-yo according to them. They said better to leave it alone. So what does v.38 do for you- maybe help smoothness and power but just a tiny bit.
After your intake the 19% pulley is good but it will void your supercharger warranty. Get a smaller pulley belt and change it every 25,000 miles.
No ECU upgrade required- just run with the stock one for now.
Exhaust is only if you don't mind more exhaust note or consider one of the more quiet ones like (in no order)-
Rspeed (2 styles for the MCS) - see Rspeed.net
Borla street (restrictive)
Milltek sport
I'd say stay away from any restrictive exhausts if you want the full power of the 19% pulley upgrade-
So think twice before installing Quicksilver, JCW exhaust, or Borla Street

OK, but how much power will I lose staying with the stock exhaust? I was thinking about the borla street because I don't want a loud exhaust. Would it be a waste of time over the stock?
Also I have no idea what sw I have it might be v32 or something. From what I read today I may have stumble anyway! only in 1st when starting off it bogs down alot before firing off.
thanks.

One of the problems with the 19% pulley is that gains are muted a bit by the restriction of the stock exhaust. Adding the Borla street is a good compromise of more power and free breathing but not much more loudness- it's easy to live with and common to find in your local area or buy from Helix13 or other vendors.
But it is considerated a restrictive exhaust when compared to Borla race or Magnaflow, UUC or Milltek so if you want the full power of the 19% pulley then just keep that in mind. You may get more exhaust loudness from some of these which could be more than what you would want.
So your idea of 19% pulley and Borla Street is a nice economic and liveable solution. I think you will be fine. It's not that big a difference in power. Few HP.

If that is the case then OK you can get one software upgrade to v.38 if they have it but nobody in my area has v.38 so I cannot comment on whether it works well or causes more trouble. Remember you can add v.38 at any time, there is no rush if you don't have a big stumble or yo-yo problem.

RE: v.38...
I have 1,000 miles on my '04 MCS with v.38 and no ill-effects. In my car, the yo-yo was addressed by this update; I never had the stumble. v.38 also worked wonders for the curise control.
You can get the low-down on v.38 from Ryephile in The Yo-Yo Chronicles.
FWIW,
Theo
