bgrpph & I were briefed on this from one of their own, Chris, today at Track Day. We recruit at least 3 MINIs and the game'll be on for us (Subarus are currently at 8 -- that per Chris)!

>>So give us the briefing. I saw the site but not sure what it is. Another driving school? Or lap time event?
==>Hey, DaKineMINI! From what we heard today (nutshell version), I'd say that it's a timed event --> all individual --> all in fun

Superlap is lapping sessions and timed racing. I talked to Tom Bryant about this and hes' trying to convince me to participate in it. My racing skills are really rusty and I have lost that edge I used to have. However, I may still participate when I get my skills up to par. I'm thinking about flying to Vegas and going to Derek Daly Academy for a few days to get a Regional License, but it's $3500!
One thing with Superlap is you have to be willing to ball up your car and walk away from it. That's why Chris will tell you that lots of guys are driving POS on the track.

Those skills will come back with some practice and some invested funds. Wouldn't hurt to have "all" of your stable to choose from.

"ball up your car" as in crash and burn? Are we scaring anyone away yet?
I thought Erik said there was a group of 8 subarus to go out on the track together.
How is lapping different from wheel to wheel?
Wheel to wheel-anything goes-if you can pass then do it.
Lapping- certain areas are designated safe to pass in with flags to assist in signaling/reminding.
Best lap time for the day counts to compare groups. Multiple sessions in the same day for the group with rest in between sessions.

I love it Minihune giving advice to Beastmaster on track issues- hey hey
I don't know specifics of the Superlap but we'll find out. Chris from drift session came up to Eric & I saying if we liked track day, we should think about getting minimum of 3 MINIs together and participate in their superlap sessions. Said it was similar to what we were doing on track day, (short course except timed - I assumed no passing except on straight but he didn't say that). Said it was $75 for five 15 minutes track sessions running with similar cars. Sounded like fun to Eric & I.

Actually, if I remember correctly from my conversation with Tom, you have a series of lapping sessions and the day is finalized with a couple of races. The races are strictly voluntary. With a school, there is no timing allowed.
Because of this rule, balled up cars are still covered by your no-fault insurance. Organized racing on the other hand, is not covered by any no-fault insurance policy I know of. Eventhough there are specified passing areas, the adrenaline will get to all of us and we will pass in unspecified areas. I believe Minihune was passed in one of those areas at SF, as I heard that in the comm chatter. As mini-t said, this is big boy racing as if you smash your car, you have to be willing to eat it.

==>Hey, Barry -- it was almost as if Chris waited for the perfect moment to recruit us, yeah? He approached us in-between sessions --> when our juices were going a mile a second

>>So was Chris riding his motorcycle or driving his pimp lavender Integra yesterday?
==>Geez, I dunno as we're all on foot then.
P.S. Yet to receive an e-mail from Chris. May take several days. He's most likely a very busy guy.

This can't be any more dangerous than Spring Fling/Aloha 500/Track Day. I cannot wait!

It is more dangerous than Spring Fling and Aloha 500 as you are not sure of other people's driving abilities. At CCH events, we scrutinize our applicants carefully and class them as such. Plus, ours are schools so if there is a crash, your insurance should cover it. If you crash at SCCA or Superlap, you have to push or drive your car onto the freeway and "report" an accident to get your car covered by insurance. Not that I'd suggest doing such a thing.

Any more MINIs to sign up?
I think we needed a minimum of three MINIs.
I think there are two so far.
I will not be able to attend as I will be out of state.
Any others? please contact Erik808 soon.

Several weeks back, I e-mailed Drift Session -- asking Chris to e-mail me. No reply as of yet. A while more to go. We're hoping big-time that this'll come to fruition
