Heya Fellas, was wondering what you guys all respect for some nice SUMMER tires, i dont want all seasons. I have a dedicated set of winters. These tires will be plopped on my 17 ultra leggeras and would prefer the size 215/45/17 but i guess i can managae 205/45/17

i ran with my BF KDWs last summer.

im looking at potenza re760
HTR Z 2 and 3
maybe dz101's
GT Radial Champiro UHP1 (i know they are cheap but somone was doing great auto X with them in a cobalt)

i may be willing to try the last one to see if they are any good, they are mainly used in Aussie from what i hear

whats your guy's experiences or have other suggestions? and as much as i want pilot sports they are too expensive for me right now, since the mini actually sits more in the summer, i have pilot powers on both my bikes and they are awsome =)

 

Looking from your selections I'd pick the Potenza re760's. The Dz's aren't exactly the best tire. Not that great on wet roads. I've had a couple friends run those and have said they would never buy again.

I dont really have any experience with the GT Radial Champiro UHP1 tire. It looks like a Michelin Pilot Super Sport knock off to me.

Then between the HTR ZII and the RE760. RE760 is the better tire of the two. However, you can the get the HTR ZII for about $30 less per tire. So that being said, is the benefits of the RE760 over the HTR ZII worth the $120 extra? I mean the RE760 is about 40% of another full set of the HTR ZII, thats quite the difference in price.

Another thing to think about is the RE760 is a heavier tire, so if you're one that likes to reduce the unsprung weight that is a ding against it. 3lbs heavier in fact. So your acceleration is going to be altered slightly due to the weight difference. Some people don't notice, some do.

You will have slighty better grip with the RE760 as well. It has a slightly wider tread width so that helps out a little. Wet grip, they both are just O.K. The RE760 In my experience does get a little harder in colder weather so it takes a little longer for it warm up. But if its a hot 80+ degree day, you won't really notice.

So to repeat myself, RE760 is what I pick. But if you're on a budget I'd say the HTR ZII are a great tire for the money.

-Just a side note, I've decided to run Pilot Super Sports this summer. Pricey, but from people I've talked to and the reviews, its a great tire. I'll find out this summer if they're worth the extra dough.

 

yeah im not quite ready to pull that trigger on the pilots, the pirce right now, tire rack has the re760 in the 205/45 for $86 makes it in line with the rest of the tires.

that was one good point, i never looked at the weight of the tires, 3lb extra is alot....

What are you looking for in a tire? Price? Performance? ride? noise? wear?

For the street I like Continental DW tires. Pretty grippy, can't be beat in the wet, and very quiet and comfortable.

 

The OP wants summer tires with good street handling and performance at a good price, on par or better than BFG KDW 2 (Ultra High Performance Summer tire) and come in 215/45-17 or 205/45-17.

yeah looking like the re760 is going to be the tire for me, every where i read it has good reviews

although the s04 may make me do some autoX =)
