R50/53 Why is this answer so elusive?
Why is this answer so elusive?
After searching for a while on how to remove the plastics sleeve on my R53's shift lever, I have yet to find a clear answer. I believe it's there a a retainer for the shift boot. I got rid of the boot and am replacing it with the craven shift we'll cover. If I choose to use the oem ****, then it will look weird. If I go with an aftermarket ****, besides craven, they can't go down the shaft far enough.
So can anyone tell me how to get it off, I was think just take my dremel and a cutoff wheel to it, but I don't want to if I don't have to.
Thanks,
Ben

What plastic sleeve are you talking about? A picture would help.
Can you identify it here: http://www.redlinegoods.com/MINIinstall.php

From what I remember there was a zip tie holding the boot at the top of the shifter. Is that what you're talking about? I just clipped it off with a pair of side cutters.
That's the only plastic piece I remember from the short shifter install on my R53.
Edit: apparently Way knows what you're talking about. I'd still be interested in a picture though, for my own curiosity.

The boot is tightened to the lever...the plastic piece is between the **** and boot. Each end has a flange, one to stop the zip tie from sliding down, and the other makes a transition from the ****.....and that's what I thought referring to waymotorworks,I just could find any posts that said that for sure
Thanks for the help!
