R56 OBC Service Mileage Counter Question
OBC Service Mileage Counter Question
Sorry guys, searched a bit but didn't exactly find the answer I was looking for.
Has anyone experienced the OBC oil service mileage counter continually count upwards instead of going down? I understand this can change based on driving habits, etc. I have seen it go up 100 miles or so in the past or stay at the same mileage for several hundred miles and then count downwards. I have also seen it go from 2700 miles to go to SERVICE DUE overnight. What's new to me is watching the mileage counter count up week to week instead of going down? Lately it has gone from 1600 miles to go to 1700->1800 and this morning it's at 1900. Is this normal? Route driven, driver, and driving conditions have not changed at all (except the temperatures going to freezing to 60s and back to freezing lately). This is on my 2013 Cooper.
Thanks.

First question is which service is it that's due?
Its counting the oil service, front an rear brakes (individually) and the inspection. Brakes can easily count up if you change your driving style, street (or track) driving is particularly hard on them, freeways use very little brakes. The brakes can also cause a sudden service due when the sensor wears out.
The inspection counts down strictly by miles. The oil is uncertain. When you start up it only shows you the counter which is due first. If your oil and brakes are close, it could change from showing you one then the other. If your brakes started counting up, it could behave like you describe.

Thanks for your response!
It did not occur to me that the mileage counter was counting the other maintenance items as well (front/rear brakes, inspection, etc). For some reason, I thought it was simply counting the oil change interval.
I checked the car this AM and it seems it's 1900 miles counting for front brakes, but 1900 miles also for oil change. So like you said, it's probably flip flopping between both depending on which is taking priority for soonest service. Thanks again.
