Going in for service - warranty void?
Hi all. I bought my 2011 Mini Cooper preowned with a hair over 23k miles on it. I'm still under 36k and my brake light came on (along with some minor broken stuff I need fixed). I made an appointment to bring the car into the dealer for service under my warranty. I'm nervous they are going to deny the warranty claim though because of the mods I made and void the warranty. I installed an amp and subwoofer and while it's a clean install, does the fact that I ran a power cable off the battery and tapped speaker wires for signal void my warranty? I have disconnect plugs on my power, ground and all wires to and from my box/amp rack so it can be easily removed and wires hidden, but I also ran my power cable through the battery compartment housing into the engine compartment for easy access to my fuse holder, so there will be obvious holes if I took that all out. I also have some minor mods like a stubby antenna, MCS spoiler (OEM but I have a justa) and rennline door pulls I'm slightly concerned about as the deviate from purely "OEM equipment". Anyone have experience with going in for warranty service with similar mods? Think I should remove and hide as much as possible? I definitely don't want to void the warranty but it's a lot of work to change everything back. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Gary

I have an Alta intake, M7 front strut bar, M7 turbo heat shield, Alta stubby antenna. just had some warranty work done a couple days ago. Dealer won't care unless your mods caused the issues you're having. Highly unlikely your dealer will void warranty based on your stereo and your cosmetic mods.
Ok, time to learn a thing or two...
Nothing you do can void the entire warranty. You can void the warranty on systems if you modify them. So installing a stereo has no effect in emissions or the engine.
Furthermore, in order for a dealer to deny a warranty claim, they must PROVE what you did, caused the problem. Not just say you did. They have to prove it. That may entail lawyers, but that is the law.
See moss magnuson act.
Anyway, you should be fine.

and your worn brakes are not going to be replaced under warranty
they are replaced under pre-paid maintenance - so long as your brakes are all MINI parts.
maintenance is 36,000 ... warranty is longer.

Thanks for the input. I have heard about dealers having to prove any sort of modification as being the cause of a problem to deny warranty service just wanted to hear firsthand if anyone had a similar situation or any issues. I am still under 36k as stated in my original post, so I'm expecting my maintenance to cover brake pads if that's the issue, but I've also got some broken items I've already cleared with the dealer as warranty items to be swapped along with the darn brake light.
I am still curious to hear from anyone who has gone in for service specifically with electrical mods (amplifiers, lights etc) and if they were even addressed. Thanks again for the help, it's very much appreciated!!

I'm going in next Friday and decided to swap the oem door handles back in so they will look into the door rattles (I've read about "door rattle kits"). I'm assuming they won't do anything in the doors with the rennline door pulls installed. I think that I will leave the rest as is and hope I don't have any issues. Any other thoughts? Thanks!!
