Has anyone used 3m paint defender
Has anyone used 3m paint defender
My MINI is in the shop getting an AERO bumper installed and fresh paint on the bonnet. I don't have 500-1000 for a clear bra. I saw this a month or so ago and was wondering if anyone had used it. It's supposed to be thicker than Plasti-Dip but not sure if it's "TOO good to be true".

I have used it. It works as advertised. However, 3M cautions that you have to follow the directions to the letter to get the results.
I did my bumper but not the hood. I bought one complete kit and that was enough for the bumper. There may be approx 1/3 can left but I think I will get another can before I do the hood just in case.
The kit comes with a spray handle. Another guy I know didn't use the handle and got clumpy results.
I did mine while the bumper was off the car for other service issues. I found that having it face up on saw horses and spraying with the can almos horizontal onto the surface.
Don't start and stop the spray. you start before the surface and go left to right, up and down, left and right. 3M has videos out there. That is how I learned. Not sure why some have had problems.
The finish is clear. I think it looks fine, the feel is a little plasticky. Not silky smoothe like paint. But cheaper than new paint.
If you are doing this on new paint. It has to cure first. Off-gassing as they say. So if the paint wasnt baked, you will need to wait a while.
