R56 JCW M7 Splitter on 06 GP or make your own....?
Anyone every try/consider bolting the R56 JCW front splitter to the 06 GP ? The front bumpers have similarities and attachment area obstacles which seem to have been overcome in that application....
I placed a cardboard template from my old M7 splitter to the GP front bumper. The only areas of attachment would be at the ends of the splitter which is probably why M7 states it's not possible......
The area is not flat either, so with the supplied rubber spacers/bolts varying the amount of spacers at each bolt area would be necessary. I did just that with a similar set up on Aero bumper providing optimum ground plane adjustments. In a cursory look on the GP bumper without removing it, I could manage 4-5 attachment points on each end of the splitter via a zig-zag hole pattern.
Then there's that huge area in the middle.....additional longer hardware bolts and rubber donuts or washers varying in thickness for attaching points filling this gap would be necessary.
Another option is just purchasing a few foot long 1 inch thick sheets of ABS from here, ABS bonding them together, cutting and sanding exact fit spacers effectively filling most if not all the gaps on both ends and middle reducing hardware and providing firmer attaching areas. I'd probably bond the three pieces to a splitter first, then drilling the holes and bolting it right up.
Turnbuckles - while area to bolt up is somewhat limited they can be attached in similar fashion/location as the Aero bumper I would think but instead of the painted bumper area, using the front grill shield area at inboard sides of the faux brake ducts.
Strictly for appearance reasons, I prefer these Turnbuckles from Sneed. Turnbuckles
