Service question

I picked up my 2014 CMS this week, and when it was time to do the paperwork and discuss extended maintenance options, the guy told me that non-MINI auto service shops will no longer be able to do repairs other than oil changes on MINIs in the near future, so I should consider buying the extended maintenance. He said this after I told him I took my old MINI to my trusted auto shop after the 3-year free maintenance period because of lower cost. I found that hard to believe and I declined to buy the extended program. Was he just bu11$hitting me or was he telling the truth?

How the heck would they enforce it....it's not like there's a lock on the hood or under the car. Do what you want. After the warranty you're paying either way, so go to who you want.

The finance guy earns commission on every tire and maintenance warranty sold. I always enjoy the sales person talking up the vehicle your buying and the finance guy tells you the horror stories of your vehicle. Sort of the good cop/bad cop idea.

As for the authorized dealers, he might be referring to that using the warranty will be honored only thru authorized dealers. My local Mini/BMW dealer is a also owns a BMW only dealership. The BMW dealership told informed me they can only perform oil changes that I would need to pay for since they cannot submit Mini warranty claims.

Glad to hear no one else had the same sales pitch that I received. I knew he was just trying to scare me so I would buy. He was not talking about warranty coverage eligibility. He was saying mechanics won't have the capability to replace parts or re-program MINIs because of technology etc etc. I just took it as plain BS, so I said I'll take my chances when I reach the 3-year mark. He got very quiet when I declined (I declined all extras), I guess because he realized I wasn't gullible. And I guess the fact that I'm a woman (my husband couldn't come with me that day), I would be easy to sway. Ha-ha.

Interpretations and the implementations of this act protect your rights to chose repair options and the limitations of warranty's.
