Making my own intake

I won't call it a cai but I'm looking at makingmy own intake for some turbo noises.

Is the following correct what I would I need

1) 76mm 90 degree silicone bend
2) Reducing aluminum straight pipe 76 mm to 65 mm
3) 76 mm neck sized k&n cone filter?
4) 2 clamps

Is everything listed correct and corrected sizing?

Is this safe to do?

Thank you.

you could go to http://siliconeintakes.com/ and buy a 90 degree elbow that reduced for you. that's what i did when i ran a home made intake. but i recently switched to the ALTA CAI and it was a wise choice. I just didn't like how wobbly the intake was in my engine bay and wanted something reputable and sturdy

I just built a DIY intake last week, very similar to what you propose. Mine actually cost nothing, since these were all used pieces from an intake I used on my '09 VW Rabbit. Agreed, It's not cold air, but the engine sounds terrific now. FWIW, I also replaced the plastic screen on the hood scoop with some haxagonall steel mesh to let in a little bit more cool air.

My braket is just a bent piece of steel, bolted to one of the engine bolts at one end, and held by a clamp at the other. It's solid enough.

Why is the reducer required? Can't the filter fit on the piping with the same diameter as the filter ?

The clamping part to keep the filter in place and secure, , can tie straps be used and if so how?

Your sensor is 3", they make 3" pipe, 3" couplers and 3" filters... I don't see a reducer being needed at all in this setup.

Yes - mine's all 3". The 3" elbow is just a tad bigger than the sensor, but the clamp cinched it down fine without the need for a reducer.

If I can remember, I'll try to take a decent picture of the bracket I made. It's a little bit ghetto, but it was easy and cheap.

So if we get 3" (inside diameter) elbow, coupler, filter, it will all bolt up perfectly with just clamps?
