Pasticdipping CM Cooper grille

I just saw an older Mini hardtop (blue) with its grille bars as the same color as the body. This blue on blue treatment looked great and I'm now thinking that perhaps coloring the silver bars on the CM to match the True Blue color of my car would look sharp.

Anyone done anything like this to the grille? It appears that PlasticDip is the product of choice when blacking out various other items on the CM, but I've never used PD except on some tool handles. I see they offer a color kit and you can try to match the color on your own, but I'd guess that would mean a paint brush vs spray.

Any other ideas? Would like to have something that is removable if this all fails in execution ;-)

Instead of plastidip you could wrap it with a color-matched vinyl. I've seen quite a few folks on NAM who have done their headlight rings, etc. It's also removable and might be easier than trying to color match the plastidip.

Vinyl isn't a bad idea but it may pull off the finish upon removal. I wrapped my steering wheel spokes and the vinyl pulled the matte finish off. I don't know what the finish is like on the justa CMs but that's something to consider.

This was one of the best comparisons for me on the plastidip vs vinyl.

I had both and due to fumes decided to do vinyl on all my stuff. It does take a little longer to apply but after you get the hang of it isn't that bad. I haven't had any experience removing the vinyl though.

OK, needs some clues, since I'm clueless on vInyl. Where do find it? How does one apply it?
