After seven months of ownership I was looking at my MINI in the late afternoon sun when I noticed a small dent on the roof about 6" or so up from the gutter midway along the roof on the passenger side. You'd thought I would have noticed it before now. There are no scratches or anything associated with it, just a very small dent that you only notice if the light is right.

I'm looking for someone to tell me they have a simular "mystery dent" so I'll feel better about my first noticeable dent.

I've got some too !! , not in the same location, mine's back near the atenna on the driver's side and I noticed them a couple weeks into ownership, and I had already had some others repaired that I had discoverd on delivery on the lower part of the car. No one else has ever mentioned them, so they aren't very noticeable....except to me :???:

I have a 'mystery dent' on the passenger's side rear quarter panel. I's definiltey'built in' and not done after the paint job. It's very slight, but I know it's there. This is something to be expected in a mass produced car.

I also have several mystery dimples between my hatch and the sunroof. Not the slightest scratch associated with them. I'm 99% sure that my car came with them, but like you, I didn't notice them until months later. I'm also 99% sure that no one other than me has ever noticed them.

"I also have several mystery dimples between my hatch and the sunroof."

There were reports of dimpling in early cars with dark roofs due to thermal effects. You might try searching for "dimple", "roof dent", "roof buckle", etc. to find those threads.

fwiw, I own a black 04 MCS (with S/R) and haven't experienced this problem.

Nope, I've got the white roof. I think the dimples are due to "poor quality control" effects.

As I recall, the thermal dimpling was an issue with black, non-sunroof tops. I've looked for it on my white roof but have yet to see it.

Kinda on the same subject. The Dent Doctor here in Okla City, is booked up for quite some time. After the recent hail storm that blew in, lots of cars got damaged from golf ball size hail.

The MINI stays safe in the garage if it even hints of a storm heading this way.

The car dealers that got hit are now having hail sales

Yup in the door near pass door handle, very tiny, definitely there before paint went on. Noticed it when I picked up the car, didn't say anything. Very tiny.

I've got two on my white roof, two on the BRG hatch, one on the front fender. Very slight, barely noticeable indentations, will only show up in the right light if you are looking for them.

I have three very tiny dent points to the left of the rear driver's tallight, right on the rear "shoulder" point of the car. Didn't notice them until last week (8 moths after purchase), but they definitely look like they're under the paint.

I am not sure how you would ever tell if it came that way. I have had dings before that left no evidence in the paint at all. I also had a few removed with no evidence. Anyway I had one in the panel between the front fender and driver door compliments of Niello MINI during a hood realignment. THey did pay to remove it. After that I looked over my car very carefully when I pick it up from service.

I also noticed a very very slight dent in the passenger side rear panel. I didn't notice it till I washed it in the direct sun. You can only see if from certain angles and if I try to point it out usually it isn't bright enough to find again. I am not sure how such a light ding could have been put in the car. It seems like it would have been bigger around if something hit it.

I got a mystery dent (virtually invisible unless you look at it from one angle)
on the hood just aft of the scoop. There is no scratch or damage in paint
associated with the dent. I first thought it was the contour of the bonnet,
but I *think* this is a dent.
