Roof "Thunks" lodly when closed

Anyone else have a semi-automatic roof that makes a noticeably loud "thunk" as it drops into the retracted position?

I have a 2013 R59 that is only a few months old.

Best,

...Mike

Mine has a bit of a clunk, but its not too alarming. It also has a bit of a "bonk" sound when it first starts closing, I'm assuming there are some rubber pads that it is sticking too on warmer days, so I'm not too worried. Maybe I should be? :P

Mine makes a thunk/bonk sound on the passenger side. Almost as if it just falls in place. I can hear it almost every time when I hit a speed bump. It really annoys me and I will mention it when I have to take her in for maintenance. Wondering if they can do anything about it...

My roadster has 6600 miles on it and this issue is only getting worse. I also have lowering springs which make going over bumps even more of a production than normal so i will be calling the dealership tomorrow to get an appt set up.

ChefTyGuy:

Haven't heard from you in ages. So you have a top issue it appears? I've looked hard at my Lil Guy, but nothing yet. I do have some weird squeeks in the door latch, or maybe window area. I'm going to try and get this taken care of next week after I get back from vacation.
6600 miles? Wow. Lil Guy is showing 2465 on the clock right now, still lov'n him.

Yes I do get that and also it thumps, bangs and rattles like crazy when driving along It's been to the dealership 4 times and every time they say how awful it sounds, attempt to fix it, give it back to me and 2 seconds down the road it's worse than ever. They said they found wear marks in the roof compartment but it's still unfixed.

For rattles it's the worst car I've ever owned..

^Sounds like you have quite the lemon roof. I've been pretty stunned at how few rattles and clanks I've had. The worst one ended up being the passenger seatbelt latch knocking against the side, wedge that and it's as quiet as one could hope for from a ragtop on runflats.

Interesting...that's the only abnormal noise I've ever experienced too. Slide the plastic belt slider up so it holds the male latch against the seat fitting -- problem solved.

Maybe I just got lucky, but my Roadster is and sounds as solid as if it were build by BMW. (Oh. Yeah.)

Mine sometimes makes a clunk when it starts moving up. Other times, no clunk. I'm not terribly worried about it, honestly.

Mine makes a "thunk" at the end of retracting. Didn't really notice it much until I read this thread...

Mine makes the same thunk at the end of retracting. It's done it since Day One and I assumed it was normal.

Rupert is 11 months old now with 13,600 mi on the clock. No other issues except a strange rattle out of the HK speakers that lasted only one day. I am now attributing that to my iPod or the Y-cable. I posted about that in the electronics forum.

Mine thunks too, I thought it was normal.

I have a few squeaks, haven't found them yet, not terrible, I do drive on lots of bumpy roads.

Did find the Passenger belt latch banging when the passenger seat was too far back, not an issue though it would be nice if MINI had molded in a little holder like on the clubman..
