OEM R60 Roof Rack Installation

So I recently got an OEM roof rack shipped from a dealer in Colorado and installed it on my R60. I followed the manual to the letter in measuring the distances from the front of the flush rails, oriented the rails the right way, and measured exactly from the front to rear rails. My question is when I torqued the screws with the provided tool and the clamp started to close down, I started to hear a slight noise, as if some adhesive or seal was lifting. Keep in mind I was tightening very gradually and switching sides every few turns. This noise started when the tool was showing I was approaching the threshold. I ended up just stopping before 6 Nm and not tightening further. It seems sturdy enough, however I have a a Thule box to be picked up soon and will need to load the rails. I want to be sure it's secured but don't want any seal to be ruined and have rainwater leak in. Has anybody else noticed this noise when doing the install?

I hear that noise every time I put mine on. Not quite sure where it's coming from, but I haven't noticed any ill effects.

I don't recall whether I heard that sound when I installed my rack or not, but I think what you're describing may have come from the small torque wrench that is used to install the rack. Remember, it's plastic, and you twist it until the marks line up, so that may be the cause.

Thanks for the info! The sound definitely comes from the flush rails as I manipulated the tool on its own and did not reproduce the sound. Good to know that I'm not the only one and that no adverse effect should come from that noise.

Mine does that too! Doesn't seem to be a problem.
