R61 Aggrevated with K&N (and/or MINI?)
Aggrevated with K&N (and/or MINI?)
Go to the K&N site looking for a K&N air filter for my Paceman, which they actually have listed. Copy & paste the part number into Amazon, because they usually have that stuff cheaper. Going on trust here, because it's impossible to know if the part pictured is the right dimensions, but the part pictured at Amazon is the same as what's pictured at K&N. So I ordered it. It showed up. Open up the air box, and it isn't even close. I should have known, because Amazon gave me a warning that the part I ordered wouldn't fit my car; I assumed maybe they just weren't up to date, especially since K&N DID list that part number for this car. Wrong.
So on a whim, I ordered the K&N filter for a 2013 Countryman. I mean, just about everything else up front is the same, one would think they'd re-use the same air intake parts. It showed up today. It, too, does not fit. It's about 1/4" too long and maybe 1/4" narrower than the stock paper filter. Contrary to the norm, I didn't throw any tools or filters across the garage. But I was quite a bit irritated and did mutter several profanities before calmly putting yet another new K&N filter back in its box unused.
So now I'm waiting for the wife to get home so I can see if this filter fits her Countryman. If it does fit, that means MINI in their infinite wisdom changed the dimensions of the air filter on the Paceman by mere fractions of an inch from the nearly-identical Countryman; if it does not fit, then I'll have two gripes with K&N.
Anybody else have experience with K&N filters in their MINI's, particularly a Countryman? I never did put one in either of my previous MCS's, so I've got nothing to go on.
Soz for the negativity ... just had to vent.

This was discussed on another thread:

It looks like there are basically 2 filters, one for the S and one for the Justa Cooper. Check out the thread, but it looks like if you order one for the Cooper S Countryman, you should be good. Personally, I would send it back and order the AFE Pro dry. That's what I'm running and it's great.
Oops, I see that was you on that other thread. Me is such a bonehead! Never mind!

Anyway, I did order the right one for the Countryman S and it fits perfectly. Big Duh on my part. But K&N does still have the totally wrong part number listed for the Paceman.
