How to re-wire R57 factory installed driving lights

Hi. My wife's 2012 R57 has Mini factory installed driving lights which look cool but only work when the high beams are on, which is never. I understand they can be rewired to work on their own switch (installed) without the high beams. Can anyone tell me how to re-wire them?

Look at the installation instructions and circuit diagram: http://motoringfile.com/files/R56_aux_lights.PDF

It looks to me that pin 4 of the Control Module (basically a relay) takes a signal that indicates whether the high beam is on. Verify this by probing what happens on that line as you turn high beams on and off. If you disconnect the original line from the footwell module and apply a constant 12V to pin 4, I think the original switch will operate the lights without regard to the status of the high beams. Do this at your own risk.

However, when would you want to turn them on without high beams? Because driving lights have no cutoff and operate like an extra set of high beams.

How about without the harness. I have the lights, switch and no wiring. I just need an idea for fuse, power source and ground. I have the factory switch. Thanks

OK

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and ask how are you at reading electric diagrams??

This picture shows how to wire a set of add on horns but essentially wiring driving (or fog) lights is the same
{what we're really talking about is adding a simple accessory with a relay}

Where you see the horns - you have the lights with a + and a ground wire.

Where you see the steering wheel horn button .... you're gonna have a toggle switch for on/off.

You need to wire using a relay . . . the numbers on the diagram will be found on the relay identifying the 4 blades for your wires.

I don't know if you can use the factory switch as I don't remember how many lugs it has but I think it was extras because it has lights in it. For simplicity I'd just use a simple toggle.

I can draw you a pure DL picture if you want .... p.m. me.

How did you end up with part of an installed set of OE lights?

In CA, it's illegal to turn driving lights (that are pointed up, not down like a extra fog) on unless its a situation when you would be using your high beams. That's why they are tied to your high beams. So you can use them on back roads, but still flip them off so you don't blind oncoming drivers when you meet someone coming the other way.

Number 86 goes to the toggle along with 85 right?
Also only one wire from lamps, I guess ground is through the mounting bolts/brackets.

As to how I ended up with just the lamps, installed the harness on my other Mini that I traded for this one. Lamps easy to remove but not harness.
