Dam camping 2013

So who is camping down near the Fontana dam? I will be at tent site #8. My "rig" takes up less room than a tent so there is plenty of extra room.

In can pack my Coleman stove and some utensils if we want to do any community cooking. I plan to bring ingredients for S'mores at least.

Keith, who couldn't find any mention of who's camping this year...

My friend Mark (from Nashville) and I (Chris from Indy) will be camping at the dam again this year. I think this is the 4th time we've camped down there for MOTD. Look for two Laser Blue MCS's and a trailer hauling a motorcycle. My old cb550 is coming along this yr....getting some two-wheeled fun in as well. : )

I think I replied in your other thread as well. The campsites are nice and the electric hookup sites are huge. They are big enough to accommodate a bus or rv parked sideways....I'd estimate them to be about 25-30 yards wide and 20 yards deep....huge. Here's a pic of out setup last year. This is taken from the road....our two minis are also parked on the campsite....just away from the tent...

Each site has a concrete pad with table and electric and water. I usually take a hose and wash supplies to wash the cars.

The campground is spread out and very quiet. Only one shower, but I've never had trouble getting in there to clean up each day. Fontana village is less than five minutes away.

Hope that helps.

I have made to the Lodge. For now I was told I can't get to the camping area due to a mudslide on NC28 north. Expect/hope to be cleared soon.

Flash flood advisery in the area...

Mudslide on 28 has been cleared. Hopefully things are drying out. I like the campground. Beware of potholes.

I have reserved site #18 for 2014. I am upgrading from a tent site this year to a shelter.
