Yesterday my wife spotted two MINI convertibles in Bishop Ca. The first one was blue with the top up, and the second was orange, with the top down. I told her that they weren’t out yet, but she swears they were MINIs. Thin I remembered that in 2001 before they released the MINIs there were about five that hung around town for about a week. It turns out that BMW does a lot of there testing here because of the extreme changes in climate. You can go from below sea level in Death Valley to over 10,000 ft in a few hundred miles. Each year all of the new BMW’s show up here too, kind of cool to see. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that they’re coming…

Yep, a bunch of the new Porsche GT supercars were spotted there undergoing hot weather testing.

Bishop? They must have made a giant loop out of that trip. That's on the way to Mammoth, right?

No amount of masking of MINI logos and nameplates (during testing) is going to hide the uniqueness of the car. The convertible will not be available in the MCS this year, but the convertible MC will, I understand, be available in the U.S. this summer. My guess is that it will cost about $1000 more than the standard MC, and weigh more too.

where did you get this info? at the Autoweek/MINIUSA debut at the NYC Autoshow, we were told to expect both of them here this fall at roughly the same time (possibly by September), and we were also told that pricing will be in the range of $4000-$5000 more over base price.

They will be available both at roughly the same time this fall and at about a $4000 premium over the fixed roof MINIs.
