I think it's great that it still looks like a 911. Here's to Porsche for sticking to their roots.

I think it's amazing how Porsche only makes somewhat subtle changes between model generations, but still manages to make it look like a brand new car.
Two thumbs up

I'm glad they are getting back to a more proper shape. It is the only reason I haven't bought one as of late.......

Oh man! That is nice work. I like the current car, but this moves back a little towards the old 993 which I liked a little better.

I'm trying to picture the scenario in these photos... two (apparently) proto 997s caught in a traffic jam while some guy just walks around them snapping photos?!

And the driver seems like he couldn't care less!

I dig the aesthetics more than the 996 I never liked how the 996 and Boxster looked basically the same. Kudos to Porsche.

Looks like the round headlight is coming back. When will it be available?

They're bringing back the C2S in 05. That should be quite a car!

I know AWD is being used on lots of high end sports cars these days but I guess I'm still a "sports cars should be RWD" traditionalist. So it's nice to see the return of the C2S. The last C2S (in 98, I think) was fabulous.

I just hope they keep the production numbers down so I don't end up taking another scalding bath like last time (00 996).

Bad resale value notwithstanding, I still think the 911 is the world's best sports car!

with the intro of the 997 i will finnally say that i'm a water-cooled Porsche fan with the acception of the Turbo, GT2, GT3, and Carrera GT of course. The 993 was still the ultimate for me, and this 997 looks to bring back those customers that love the 993 and have kept the market for those cars on the up and up. The 996 to me was always a (forgive the wording) girlie Porsche. My cousin's 1996 C4S was a beast and so hard to drive all day it was work to egage that clutch, the 996 was softened up too much for my tastes.

Thanks for the updated photos! Very nice!

The 997 definitely presents a more distinctive appearance from its Boxter (986) sibling, which shares many cosmetic features of the current 911 (aka 996).

I wonder if the turbo models will receive their usual dose of testosterone to produce a more muscular exterior demeanor!

Looks crisp and clean, I like. Perhaps sometime in the future...

What does the turbo look-like (or is that the one semi-camo'd?)

I haven't seen any pics of the 997 Turbo yet.

Here's a guess at the new Boxster Coupe.

The Boxter coupe is actually quite attractive, reflecting some family resemblance to the 911design. Is the coupe still considered as mid-engine?

But since we already have a 911SC she says how about a HORSE (Ferrari ) I will have to get a job that pays a little more !!

This month's CAR magazine (with the ///M5 on the cover) has a good article on the Carrera GT as they warp around Germany in 31 hours.

I think sambusik was referring to the generations of the 911 and the Boxster. Both of those cars are on a very nice evolutionary path (new Boxster pics including the new Boxster Coupe are also in CAR). I'd like to see a similar evolution of the MINI. VW on the other hand seems to want to keep producing the New Beetle on the same old MK4 while the Golf and the Jetta move on to the MK5 platform.

BTW, b4f: the pics look good. I did fix a quote tag though.
