44K - 3 seasons of autocross. I went to get my yearly alignment and my guy brought me over to see how much movement there was in the front lower control arm bushing. Even inching forward on the rack and stopping quickly, I could see the arm jerk within the bracket.

There are voids in the bushing that are meant to allow some movement and a cushy ride, but how much movement should there be? The portion that I can visually inspect looks intact, but don't think I can rely on that. Is there a test or criteria to determine effectiveness or wear?

It rides well on the street and I have grown used to the handling on the autocross course, so this concern is not one that I noticed. But... wear and tear issues creep up and you get used to them.

Any advice on how to proceed? I am running D-stock, so I think poly bushings are out of the question.

 

It's pretty typical for bushings to be worn out at 40k miles.

Since you are running D stock the powerflex is out, but it will be a good thing to get new bushings as that will get your alignment correct and improve your handling.
We keep both the OEM and Powerflex bushings in stock.

 

Just installed last weekend the pre-pressed OEMs I got from Way a some time back. We've about same miles. The car just feels brand new. Replaced the inner ball joints & sway bushes. Stayed OEM. Dropping sub-frame wasn't that bad a job. Should give another 40k mi. Next time, I'd try the PU bushes.

Molly just got some PowerFlex Bushings installed last Weekend, a much smoother ride, can feel the road better and steering has tightened just enough...first PDX MINI Run 3/02 so I'll know more of how they really feel after that.
