Rear Sway Bar Size

Does anyone know the thickness of the rear sway on the 2013 Cooper S with the factory sport suspension? I'm trying to get as much up to speed as I can on mine before it gets here sometime in March.
Thanks!!

It could be either as I've seen both on standard R56's.

Either way I recommend stepping up to an Hsport Comp Sway bar.

Put a 22mm on it - then it will corner great!

I am thinking that the rear sway upgrade to the sport suspension could be the only handling mod needed to really have fun with this as a daily driver (tire too, of course)

Sport suspension seems very tight and compliant, but it is also brand new lol. Def. more under-steer with the R56 and the rear sway bar will quell that to the best of its abilities.

Once it comes in, I'm going to play with it to see how it handles. After that, a new rear sway bar will probably be the first mod I do.

Thanks.

Just did that upgrade, night and day of a difference. Have it on medium setting for winter but can't wait for spring to tighten it up some more

18mm rear sway bar correct?

I measured the rear and got 18mm, but I noticed on the spec sheet that it doesn't list sport suspension. Just the sport package. This is a 2012 btw. I've put 19k on the car and I think I am
just now finding out the car has sport suspension haha.

It very well could be, that's why I tell people to go by what is actually on the car and not on paper.

I got one of these from Way over a year ago and on the middle setting its absolutely perfect on the Mini.

Handling is perfectly neutral and it totally changed the handling of my car. Great on the road or on the track. I highly recommend this sway bar.

I need to tap into some of your knowledge. Any real benefit of upgrading the front sway bar?

Don't you love a comment that begins with, "it depends"? Is your current suspension stock or sport and have you done any other mods to it? Are you wanting it race it or just go faster in the corners? As in cubic inches, going bigger is almost always good but....changing for the sake of changing can be expensive unless you like to wring out every lateral G force you can muster. If you're not a racer then I would say "no", most people wouldn't know the difference but if you like to drift in every turn then just about any upgrade from stock will be an improvement. That would be just the beginning though, tires, shocks, springs, brakes,...the list is endless.

Did you add it to the rear or the front? JerseyG is asking about changing a front bar.

Not many people add the front bar unless they get really serious on suspension mods as installing a front bar is a very big labor job.
Put the Hsport rear bar in and drive the car to see how you like it. You do NOT want to do a front bar and not change the rear that will make your handling worse and your car will push even more.

Way, is it even worth upgrading to an H-sport comp front sway bar? Everything seems to point to beefing up the rear as increasing the front sway bar size would increase understeer. Am I missing something here?

The stock RSB I took off my 2012 MCS this afternoon measures 17mm, I replaced it with the Alta 22mm rear sway bar. Originally I was thinking of going with the 19, but the guys at Alta said get the 22. Boy am I glad I did. Understeer is gone, the car feels much more solid and planted, it goes right where I want it without a hint of pushing or front tires scrubbing, and it is easy to adjust the line through the corner with the throttle. No drop throttle oversteer or other bad effects either. The car has gone from great handling to amazing. If you care about handling and you haven't upgraded your RSB, you gotta do this. Best bang for the buck mod out there.

In my R56 there's barely room for the 22mm, I'd be worried that the 25mm H-sport would rub. That's just my eye and my car, I know there are a lot of people who love the H-sport.

Hello, could someone please tell me where is the easiest place to do a measurement of the rear swaybar? Can I do it without taking off the wheel? Thanks in advance.

Yup, try to get inbetween the spokes of your wheel...if that's not possible due to the design just get underneath for access. No need to jack the car up.

I did it this way, and thanks to K_H_D I found out I have sport suspension.
