Interior/Exterior Sparco Race Seat & Schroth Harness, Will it Work??
Sparco Race Seat & Schroth Harness, Will it Work??
Hi everyone!
I have done a bit of searching on the web and talked to seat sellers & Schroth but have yet to get a definitive answer. In my 2004 R53, I have a Schroth Quick-Fit harness for track days and want to replace my EOM seat with a Sparco EVO or REV but would like to confirm it will work with the Schroth (car is 80% track car now).
My only concern is the OEM seat belt mount on the right side of the driver. Will the OEM female end of the seat belt be too long, or in the way to fit through the opening in the Sparco seat designed for the harness?
I would love to hear from other MINI owners who have used this set up or know for a fact it will not work. I am trying to avoid finding out after I buy the seat and am faced with no way to use it other than going to a harness bar/roll cage and new 5-6 point harness.
Thanks for your help!!

Sir5150 thanks for the input
, however when I searched the web for Sparco Chrono seats, I found pictures that show they have OEM-type seat bottoms. They do not have bottoms where the sides come up and the seat belt/harness comes through holes in the sides of the seats like the EVO or REV race seats.
Unless the pcitures I found were not accurate, I am still no closer to my answer,
Maybe somebody else can help out

The sides were not that high to have slots for the seat belts to come thru the sides on the chrono road seats. The bases had mounts like the stock seats did. The only issue you are going to have is the location of the mount on the base for the stock belt whether it is to high for the harness to go thru and hook without being a funny angle.
Sir5150 I hear what you are saying but that does not apply to my question. The Sparco REV or EVO seats can be mounted using Brey Kraus side mounts that use the MINI OEM bases and sliders. The seat belt attachment point will remain on the OEM base.
These seats both have high sides with slots for a harness, unlike the Chrono.
I am hoping to find somebody who has first-hand experience with this exact seat/harness combination. There has to be somebody out there who has done or tried this with all the tracked R53's racing around

If you're going to a racing shell versus an adjustable seat with an internal frame, you probably should consider proper safety equipment with it, specifically, a cage or roll bar with seat back support. A FRP or CF shell is not designed to take rear impacts without a seatback support from a fixed safety device behind it. If you were to have a heavy rear impact, the seat would be at risk for failing and you could find yourself going out the rear hatch window. It would be best to bypass the factory latch and pyrotechnic pretensioner, and go to a racing harness setup.
If that sounds too involved for your needs, get an adjustable sport seat and you won't have the harness fitment question.
