2002 R53 - No heat directed @ foot wells

Hello there I am new to this site and have a 2002 R53 will less than 80k on it. Sorry to jump straight in but I have an issue in that heat doesn't seem to direct to the foot wells when I select the appropriate button. I do have good cabin heat just not where my feet are. I have a fully loaded Mini which comes with the automatic climate control system. No matter what I do I cannot generate the blowers to the feet, all other settings seem fine. Any ideas how to self diagnose / fix this. We are experiencing -18 degree weather here in Eastern Canada so it's pretty fresh. Cheers in advance Simon

Perhaps the button doesn't work? Does the light come on?

Sounds like the air door actuator is stuck or a bad switch.

I put a pile of money on it being the tiny elbow on the flap which directs air to the feet/upwards. I had this problem myself. I had to buy from the dealer "small parts" 75?. You cannot buy the one flap you need, you have to buy all of them together- it includes linkages and flaps. It is very hard to diagnose this short of taking the dash apart or buying scope to look around. If you do the diagnostics on the system, it will come up with not fault because the servo which drives it is actually working right, but the flap does not move. It took me about 3 hours to fix mine. It was pretty satisfying since it also made the car more comfortable (when the flap is stuck, more air is directed towards the dash/face). See my story on this https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-control.html

i have an interesting variation on this theme. My R53 is also a 2002 and it also won't blow hot air at my feet, however, this happens only sometimes. The fault is usually preceeded by a bonk noise of, i assume, the blend door falling closed. This only happens when the outside temp. is below about 5 degrees C. Any warmer than this and the heater works fine.

Other unusual things it does: if the door is not working and stop the car and turn it off for a few minutes then start it again, the flap may work anywhere from 5 seconds to a minutes before "bonk-bonk" and no heat. then all the heat goes out the top of the dash board and it seems as though the fan goes to high.

The climate control diagnostics show no faults.

Anyone else have this issue?
