R50/53 BMW/MINI CD Changer?
I was considering the 6 CD changer for the boot, but balked at the $700 price tag. Then I noticed on EBay a guy selling the unit for BuyItNow of $300. Claims that is is just plug & play via the prewired system. Any thoughts? If it's really that easy, I can save $400. Alternatively, are there aftermarket CD changers that would be installed for a similarly lower price?

UPDATE: I E-mailed the seller and he responded as follows:
the CD changer is really that simple. it will come with everything needed
for installation. it will come with mounting instructions. just mount the
CD changer and plug it in

I installed the genuine MINI cd-changer (which I understand is the same as the BMW) and it really is almost that simple. The car is pre-wired...you just have to reposition the plug from inside the compartment in the right side of the boot underneath into the boot itself. Mount the changer in the bracket that comes with it, and then mount the bracket in the 3 predrilled holes in the plastic on the right side of the boot. Took me no more than 15 minutes.

Where did you get yours? Assume it was substantially less than $750 that the dealer wants. Any info on the "old" version (B2?) and the "new" version which is slightly more expensive but includes digital? It's all greek to me.

Can't give you any info on "old" vs "new", but yes, I paid substantially less than $750...I think that price includes installation, unless your dealer is trying to put their kid through college!! I believe dealer list price is $595...I paid $392 + $19.25 for the install kit + $15 shipping through Classic BMW/MINI. They don't have a web site yet but their phone # is (440)942-7500. I had it in a couple of days. I seem to remember that price was only until their current stock ran dry so you might want to check with them now rather than waiting until your new toy arrives. Good luck and enjoy the ride...you're going to love it!!
