Instrument lights adjustment question

OK, so I get that I have to push in the left plastic stem in the RPM gauge to cycle up and down the instrument light brightness. My question is how do I get to the highest brightness? When I cycle through the brightness, I always go just past the blink indicator of max or min. Short of catching the perfect rhythm of the up/down/up/down of the push-button rheostat, is there a better way to get the brightness right to max?

If you give it a brief press, it changes by a set amount. You can count the number of presses it takes to cycle all the way and so know how many to get to max.
