I configured a totally loaded Mini Roadster S today. The bottom line is
$38, 500.00..
Haven't discussed any details yet, but there is a good chance that I will have to eliminate some options to bring the price down.
What would you eliminate ?
For example : Nav/ tech package; leather, comfort access???
Thanks,
John

JCW interior package
Leather: lounge toffee
Cold weather package
Premium package 1
Sport package/ 17 " conical spoke black
Technology package / mini connected with Nav package
JCW sport wheel , leather
Rear fog lamp
Black headlamp housing
I really put everything possible on the car... I'm trading in a loaded auto, so I wanted to construct something similar...

If you don't have an iPhone then Connected isn't a lot of use. I don't know how the nav compares right now to aftermarket or phone apps, but it will only get more and more dated as the car gets older. I skipped both Connected and Nav. Comfort Access is cool, but you can definitely manage without it. I would get the H/K sound, it is really good and a big step up from standard. It did get expensive though.
The packages really changed since my S order 12 months ago. My JCW package got all the interior stuff, the DTC, the wheels and the body kit for only $2000 I think. Now it's $3k combined and all you seem to get extra is the Xenons. You MUST get the Xenons by the way, they are awesome...
The DTC is probably worth getting, and it looks like the Sport package gets the Xenons and the DTC so that's probably a keeper. See if you get the washers with this package, I see they are a $100 option now (were included when I got my car).
The Premium Package 1 seems expensive, so look at what you really want from it and see if you can get those specifics for less a la carte. For instance, if you're going for the "blacked out" look externally, you might not want a chrome line interior. The auto climate is good, and the park distance control is the only thing I should in retrospect probably have added, rear visibility is not this car's strong point. I also like the auto wipers and lights.
You don't mention sports suspension. I think most people on here have at least that, if not the JCW or an aftermarket option. I have the sports suspension and summer (or winter) run-flats and the ride is fie for the type of car this is (It's not a Bentley, so I don't expect that type of ride).

I dropped Technology w/Nav on mine. I rotate a nice higher-end Garmin among our cars and bikes. I switch between Droid and iPhone, so iPhone-centric Connected wouldn't do much for me a lot of the time.
Of course, I then spent the money on the leather dash and JCW tuning kit...

Here are my thoughts for savings money while still getting a car that you will love:
- Drop the leather (I had it on both of my previous Mini's and would not pay for it again. Mini does not do leather well in my estimation)
- Drop Premium Package 1 (If there is an item that you really want in the package, purchase it separately. Note that I would not do the auto AC again as it has limited benefit if you drive topless. Rear parking assist would be nice but I really have not felt like I needed it)
- I personally would not delete the Tech package (I think the car looks very dated without the flat panel display and the cost is reasonable if you want Sirius and H/K anyway). I personally use the nav all the time particularly to monitor traffic conditions.
- Savings of $2,750 brings the price below $36k
Hope this helps.
David,
Did you ever consider the JCW ? Drive one? How does it compare to the S? My mini rep thought that I wouldn't notice much difference, especially coming from the 135i...
Is Trinity more fun than the Bimmers you drove?
Best,
John

You should start with the must haves and go from there. For me a must have was JCW Package ($2,000) and Bi Zenon white blinkers and black housings. The sport seats with the checkered pattern, that come with the JCW package have been very nice in my opinion. I started as Recaro's as a must have, but they were cancelled and settled with the seats I have and am very happy.
I like my cloth seats, but then again I'm in Florida. I'm not an audiophile so the standard radio is fine for me, but I'm old and listen to Sirius -- 60's and Jimmy Buffett and don't mind cranking up the volume.
It's your money. Just don't delete something your feel is a "must have" feature.
