R56 2007 MCS quick engine questions

I've just picked my car up from the indie I bought it from after they replaced the timing chain and a gear box shaft seal.

Driving home, my stop start isn't working and I can hear a VTA dump valve I don't remember having. Oh, and the smell of burning oil, expensive oil to!!

When I get home and pop the bonnet, they've neglected to reconnect the crankcase breather that feeds into the turbo hose and about all of the electrical cable plugs and grips. Can't beat used car dealers!!

Question 1
I'm thinking they've disconnected the neutral sensor while working on the gear box, anyone concur or something else maybe? (So much wasn't put back properly I'm glad they were not working on the brakes.)
Question 2
the cover with the mini badge and spark plug surround, is covered in oil. it looks like the bit behind the plugs will come off but I can't see how. Can anyone advise if it does come off, or if it is part of the crank case cover. I can't post pics yet, sorry.

Thanks in advance.

D

Post some pics but consider taking it back to them to clean and fix any issues.

Hey buddy, I would but I've not been on here long enough. You know I don't think I ever want to take it back there for any reason.

I've just been outside, I've found 7 different cables not plugged in.the air intake pipe from the front of the engine wasn't connected properly, and the intake side is now cracked. I founda double ended cable clip from two of the coolant hoses lying ion the engine and then I spotted where the top of my crank case must have been put while they worked on it. lying on the plastic below the windscreen because there oil and fingerprints everywhere!! Shocking is all I can say. I'll book it into my local and super trusted dealer and ask them to give it a half hour inspection to make sure nothing essential is missing/not connected.

Check the fuses, and what i think is the neutral sensor on top of the gear box but neither seem to be damaged. anyone any ideas why it's stopped working?

You can still post pics.
Just curious to how you paid this shop to do the work. If on a credit card, call the cc company and decline the charges quickly.

Let us know how the next shop works out for you. You should also let us all know who the 1st shop was, so that others can be warned.

Actually the only reason they did the work is because I bought the car in mid December and the cam chain issue came up within a week. I had to make a statutory claim under uk law so I've not paid for the work. It's not a mini dealer, it's a company called coastal cars in Ferndown, Dorset UK. Trying to be as impersonal as I can basing my comments on experience rather than emotion, id have to recommend not using their workshop facilities as the level of care is completely sub standard.

The other firm, S and H motors in Poole are the opposite end of the spectrum and over the last 8 years have consistently gone the extra mile and been professionally excellent with with 4 or 5 vehicles we've taken their. It's worth paying them to check everything IMO for my own piece of mind.
