So the other night I dropped my friend off and she called to tell me she noticed my rear license plate light was out. I checked the bulbs and the sockets are rusted out. I understand that the entire rear boot latch assembly needs to be replaced as it is all one integral unit.

I have searched the internet and can only find chrome or carbon fibre ones. I'm looking for a painted black unit. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, the left one is far worse than the right, but both sides are trashed. My Mini has almost 83,000 miles.

 

Depending on how much it's worth to you, you might be able to pick up the chrome ones and Plastidip them black. Plastidip is really tough to get wrong, and even if you do, you just peel it off.

 

First, I'd try steel brush and electrical contact cleaner spray.. like the small brushes that are used for golf clubs.

 

It definitely needs to be replaced. The sockets are falling apart they are so rusted out.

I found what I need at Pelican Parts. Now I need to decide if I want primer and have it painted or painted black.
