R50/53 Military MINI owners
I have been thinking about asking this one for awhile and the "vet" thread made me to decide to do it. Who here is in the military?(ret, active)(brits can join too) What branch, NEC/MOS(what do you do) how long have you been in? from the last thread it was redleg, Nick_T, who else? I have seen a coupe of pictures with the DOD decal. I'll start.
I am currently active in the Navy. I am a Hospital Corpsman (HM) and have been for 13 years and have spent about 12 days on a ship but countless months in the desert, on top of mountains in rice paddies. my NEC are 8483/9502/8404.
8483- SURGICAL TECH I work in the operating room and assist with surgeries and have been doing so for 7 yearsand 6 mo last year in the desert.
9502-INSTRUCTOR I teach Pre-hospital Life Support (PHTLS) which is a class for EMT/PAramedic types. I also teach Combat Trauma Management which is emergency intervention on critically injured patients ie chest tubes, pericardiocentesis, cricothyroidotomy etc.
8404-FLEET MARINE FORCE CORPSMAN this is the tricky one. Unknown to most people the MArines have no medical. They count on the Navy for this. So for all those Marines on the front lines there is 1 HM for about every 30 Marines taking care of them as they are shot. We are allowed to wear the Marine Uniform with Navy rankings(except dress blues) In the statue of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima there is a Navy Corpsman(actually a pharmacist mate but this later became Corpsman. I served with the Marines as a grunt doc for 4 years. Then later as a surgical tech with Group ( think MASH)

Greetings. I'm an AF Intel Officer w/ 17 years so far. They trained me to be an Imagery Analyst but as an officer I've spent my time doing other things like building intel collection systems, deploying same, organizing units, etc. At the moment I'm a grad school professor. sdw
The father of good friend of mine's girlfriend collects real tanks. I happened to catch a couple of pics with it and my MCS one day. Thought that was a pretty cool experience checking that thing out. That's about as close as I came to anything to do with combat.
I don't have a website or the know-how to post the pics, otherwise I would. Oh well. Motor On safely soldiers!
Cheers,

Hello, I'm active Air Force, well until June 28th. After the last stressful 3 years at Rhein Main Air Base, I'm calling it quits and finishing college. I was to recieve orders to Denver Co, so I would have been living near bobhighley1, and loved every minute living in Colorado. But instead, I'll go back to Tacoma, WA to start civillian life and can't wait!
I've been in almost 6 years, I'm a SSgt, and work at the passenger terminal, loading whiney dependents onto free flights all day long, and babysitting troops on their way to and from downrange. You'd be surprised at how many don't want to obey the no drinking rules, consequently going to jail!
I inspect the airlines who fly for the military to make sure they do their job according to specific contracts as well, which has landed me some job offers down the road.
I have respect for all of you in the military who want to make it a lifestyle and career. I really don't enjoy military life, but for those of you that do, that's great and thank you.
I am thankful that the military has afforded me the opportunity to buy such a great car at thousands less than others on this board have had to pay. I'm also thankful I was able to be apart of the Air Force for 6 years, and wouldn't have done it another way if I had the chance.
Who here bought their Mini from Chris Cadotte in K-town???? He's a great guy!

Great Post !
I'm a Major in the RIANG and have been for nearly 17 years. My background is as a Combat Communications Engineer and I love the job.
I recently had the privilege of serving with 11 of my fellow troops from the 281 Combat Communications Group and many of America's finest full time and part time troops while stationed on the island country of Bahrain for 6 months, supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
All our Men and Women Airmen/Soldiers/Sailors/Marines are doing an outstanding job to keep us all safe. We should all be proud of them.
My prayers goes out to the families of the fine soldiers that have been killed/wounded in combat.
I ordered my 03 IB MCS before I left but had to put the order on hold while I was deployed. Thanks to this great site, I was able to keep up with all the goings on in the MINI world. The day after I landed back in the US, I drove to the dealer, the fine folks at MINI of Peabody, and re-issued the order for an 04 IB MCS. Took delivery in November, and have been smiling ever since.

Great idea for a post. I proudly wore Navy blue for 26 years (includes 1 year as an E-2 and 4 years at the school for misguided youth in Annapolis, MD). I flew F-4 Phantoms and F-14 Tomcats, mostly out of Miramar in San Diego, CA. I retired 7 years ago as a Commander. an am now working as a Defense consultant in the DC area still supporting our active duty brethren.
11 and a half years Active Duty USCG. Currently assigned to Strayer University under the Coast Guard's Advanced Computers and Electronics Training program where I am working on my BS in Computer Networking.
I'm an IT or information technology specialist by trade, althoug I have yet to do anything in my job rating yet. The rating was only established on June 1 and I entered ACET July 1. Before becoming an IT, I was a TC or Telecommunications Specialist (which was disestablished on June 1) and before that a Radioman (which was disestablished in October of 94)
