R56 Seat Removal: Airbag Light and Track Grease
Seat Removal: Airbag Light and Track Grease
I'm an idiot.
I spilled protein drink under my passenger seat. Since that stuff can get way funky if it ferments, I figured it would be best to pull the seat and clean as best I can.
Of course, I didn't think about checking here first [see line 1], and simply unplugged the the connector under the seat. I didn't unplug the battery. So now that it's all back together, I, of course, have the big red airbag and seat belt lights.
A little research seems to indicate that I have to take it to a dealer/shop to reset. Does this remain the only solution? What should I expect to pay an independent shop to do this? Any recommendations in the Orange County area?
Also, as I cleaned out the chocolate nastiness from the tracks, some of the factory grease came with it. So I am wondering what type of grease to use to re-lube the tracks. The factory stuff is a thick, semi-translucent, vaseline-like grease. None of the stuff in my garage - moly, lithium, etc , seem comparable.
Thanks.

Resetting the light will probably cost about 96 bucks at a dealer. (hour's labor)If you know anyone with a decent scan tool, you can reset it. If someone came to my body shop, I'd reset it for them without charge.
You can use any white lithium grease. Yes, it's a bit different but it'll work just fine.
HTH's,
Mark

Just unplugging the seat shouldn't cause an error should it? Don't you have to turn the car on with it unplugged? Like trying to play the radio? At least that's what my BMW is like.
Hit up RennSpec in La Puente. I think that's where they are. They have the BMW GT2 which is what BMW and MINI use to scan your car. Back when I went to them they only charged like $50. Worth the drive.
