I searched, first and foremost, and didn't find quite what I was looking for.

I have an '05 with the auto dim rvmirror. The glass in mine separated or something and now it doesn't auto dim any longer.

I purchased a used one from ebay, but the mount looks totally different. I think I got an early 1st gen mirror, as mine has a hefty arm that comes down from the mount, then turns into the mirror. The one I got has a small arm/spindle that just attaches directly to the mirror.

Also, the wiring on mine looks like a thick, wrapped bundle while the replacement only has a couple wires.

Are they compatible? Or do I need to send it back and keep looking?

Lastly, the plug on my existing mirror looks to be tucked up inside the head liner, can I just pull down on the headliner gently to get it out?

MINI switched to a larger mirror in '05 and moved the remote lock receiver from the headliner into the mirror. Some people switched to the older mirror because they thought the newer one is too big.

Wow, quite the size difference. So it sounds like it'll work, but I'll need to take some parts out of my old mirror and tuck everything up inside the headliner. Hmm...to keep or not to keep the older style mirror.
