Winter Tires!

Hi Guys!

Alright so Winter is definitely getting closer in beautiful Montreal, and as planned, my first mod is going to be *cough*, winter tires. Here's my take on it, I'd be more than happy to hear about yours!

While Tirerack doesn't yet show the 2013 models, I believe it is "safe" to order 2012 Cooper S JCW Package compatible tires and wheels. I've been tempted by Pirelli Sottozero's, and a new set of wheels that will nicely fit my BRGII JCW.

And wheels (the bronze will be awesome with the green :D)

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand

BTW, not going for RFT.

That's a safe bet (to go with wheels/tires for a 2012 JCW). The bolt pattern and offset haven't changed so you should be fine.

I was able to downsize to 16's since I only have an S. Stuck with runflats though as I don't want to be searching for a hole to plug in the snow. Since they are 16's, they ride significantly better than the 17 inch runflats.

I went with ASA AR1 wheels in silver with Continental Extreme Winter Contact tires in the 205/50/17 size. Just put them on today and don't see any likelihood of rubbing anywhere (I'm at stock ride height). The non runflats and the taller sidewall definitely makes for a better ride. I have a plug kit, compressor and last resort bottle of slime in the hatch in case of a flat. I'd rather plug all 4 tires in the snow than drive on runflats. I've ditched them on my previous 09 JCW as well as my 335i. On the BMW a 19" non-runflat rode better than the 17" runflats. They're great in theory but still too much of a compromise in their current state, although they are getting better.
