Can you remove the boot lid belt line trim retainer without removing the window?

I had to remove the boot lid belt line trim to have the boot painted.

Now that it's time to put it back together, I noticed that the belt line trim retaining piece that attaches to the bottom of the rear window is brittle and cracked.

I have a new one, but I'm hesitant to try and remove the old one in case this has to be fitted to the glass before the glass is fitted.

Does anyone know for certain whether this part can be removed without taking the rear window out?

Gave it a shot and figured I'd answer my own question.

Yes you can, but it's quite tricky. Use painter's tape to protect the boot lid finish as this 3 foot long piece of plastic flailing around could potentially scuff it up.

So how do you remove the trim? I need to remove mine as well and don't want to break it.
