Please help with my Suspension Mods

Thanks for reading.

I just purchased some new H & R Springs that are green. It's the second set of springs I have purchased. Neither has been installed. Sitting on stock shocks/struts currently.. My plan WAS to add the springs and adj control arms but with the upper mounts busted and reading so much about how stock shocks/struts won't last with lowering springs I'm to square one.

I noticed the other day my upper mounts both have cracks in them. The towers look a little mushroomed.

What would be a good solution on a reasonable budget? I am willing to resell the springs and get something new if necessary.

Is there a good shock/strut I could buy to pair with the H & R springs? Would those come with upper mounts/guides or do I need something else? suggestions on those?

I want good or enhanced ride quality with adjustability but don't have the money to buy bilsteins.. are megans worth buying?

Any help would be terrific, even if you could tell me what you would do in my situation. Thanks so much. Happy Motoring!

I was going to suggest Koni Sport adjustables to be paired with your H&R Springs. They are cheaper then Megans and have a lifetime warranty. They aren't height adjustable, but I'm not sure how important that is.

Then you could just buy either a set of IE Fixed Camber plates or a set of New upper strut mounts and be all set for quite awhile.

Also this way, you could just add the springs and new upper strut mounts now, and hold off a little while on buying the Koni's if you needed to save up or whatever. Springs will kill your stock shocks faster, but it's not instantaneous.

You also need some type of Strut Top Defender, either Cravenspeed or M7 plates.

Based on a reasonable budget:
I used H&R springs with stock shocks for 45,000 miles (before I crashed my car) and the shocks were just getting to the point that I thought they needed to be replaced. So I would not worry too much about using the H&R springs with the stock shocks to save money.

I would suggest adjustable camber plates or IE Fixed Plates to replace your cracked top front strut bushings. The IE Fixed Plates will raise the front about 1/8-3/16" because the metal plate is thicker than stock (which helps prevent mushrooming). The Hotchkis Adj plates do not raise the front but are more expensive and add a little harseness. Some brands of adj camber plates do rasie the front. If you do not need adj front camber I would suggest the IE Fixed Plates which add negative camber for better handling but just are not adjustable.

When you are adding camber plates (to replace the cracked strut bushings) you can pound-down the mushroomed towers with a board and hammer.
