I have a used 2004 Mini Cooper S with 44,000 miles. Can I use Prestone Extended antifreeze in a system change out? I don"t think the fluid was ever changed. Just want to be sure, so I'll ask the experts. Thanks for your help.

After reading all the threads I could find on this topic, I went with Zerex.

 

Can't go wrong with OEM, coolant touches your head gasket, which is very important. The wrong stuff will cause it to fail. I say peace of mind is worth extra cash for OEM

 

You can, but why mess around? Yeah, I know, the dealer is far away, and let's face it, unpleasant. That's why I use http://www.pentosin.net/specsheets/Pentofrost_NF.pdf which is available at my local NAPA. The Zerex G05 would be my third choice (second would be to mail order the Pentosin or OEM).

 

If you're doing a flush-n-fill any good quality product will do, I used Prestone when I did my S/C swap last year with no issues at all & we had a brutal summer this year.

The only thing to really know is:
DO NOT USE DEX-COOL!
