Tie Rods Different to other Years Model?

Hi,

I need new Tie Rods Assembly for my 2002 Mini Cooper R50. I was browsing online and notices that the 2002, 2003 and 2004 to 2006 have different part numbers for the Mini Coopers. Are the Tie Rods not the same from 2002 to 2006? Also is the R50 and R53 the same as well? Or does it matter what year I get?

I am planned as some point to swap my transmission to a 6 speed from a 2005 transmission. Will that be a problem and could I use the same Tie Rod from 2002 R50 with the 6 speed transmission?

Any help thanks.

Check on the drivers sude door jam....what is the production date?
some early 2002 cars can be a pain to get parts for cause they do not conform to even 2003 cars....mini made quite a few changes in the first few months of production....suspension parts, and even the engine mounts on early cars are different. That is why 2002 cars are so much cheaper than even 2003 cars of similar specs.
Not sure about most of your questions, but the production date info will be important.
There are several threads on what you need to convert to a 6 speed, but basicly the tranny, cv joints, and a few thousand $$ in parts....so if you have a wrecked s, it may make sense, but if you are buying the parts, a new tranny might be more cost effective...and rememer, the 6 speed is gearing for a bigger hp motor......

i think there were a lot of changes between 02 and 06. for example, a lot of parts for 03-04 wont go on 05-06, ect.

prolly be best to be part specific... no idea about the tranny, but chances are, that Wont work. i know for a fact that the gear ratios were diff from 03-04 (or maybe it was 02-03) so, based on that, im assuming enough of the rest of the tranny is too different to use in your car. sorry to burst your bubble! :( but, hey if you can make it work, i wish all the luck!

PS
realoem.com is a great rescource to check for parts....check your vin/production date vs a newer car, and see if the oem part # is the same....and an estimate on prices.

Thanks, I checked my model year and when it was made which is (07/2002). I would have to get the early model Tie Rod for my year.

Thanks for the info about the 6 speed.

Thanks, I was told that the Tie Rods would work for either R50 or R53 (5 or 6 speed) transmissions. So it makes no different. So I wil be looking for my model year Tie Rods.
