What is in my oil?

I was at a DE at Roebling Rd this weekend and had driven my 2011 MCS in two 20 minutes sessions. When I check the oil in between the 2nd and 3rd session, and I find little specs of something on the dipstick. I check it several more times, and 3 out of 4 times when I pull out the dipstick, I find these little specs. The are very large, and if you rub them between your thumb and finger, the break down. I would say most of these pieces were about he size of an ant. What do you think it could be? Pieces of carbon? Oil filter breaking down? The oil was changed at the Mini dealer about 1500 miles previously. Also worth noting that they overfilled the oil.

I went in to town and purchased a new filter and some Castrol synthetic oil and did an oil change before I went back on track. I missed one session, but I figured better safe than sorry. I saved the old oil and filter in the event something happens down the road.

My guess would be pcs of carbon that have broken free from the aggresive track driving. Are the pcs carbon black?

The oil was a little dirty, so it would be hard to say for sure, but probably safe to say they were dark, probably black.

And why wouldn't the filter remove pieces of carbon?
