Are TPMS sensors created equal?

This is hopefully NOT something that has already been specifically answered. I did a LOT of reading of old threads about TPMS, but did not find this particular question discussed... if I missed it, I apologize.

I own a 2005 Justa with original wheels. I just bought (am awaiting arrival of) another different pattern set of OEM Mini Wheels, one year newer than my current wheels... My current ones have lots of tread and work fine, I just wanted to get a different pattern. The wheels/tires I bought are from a 2004, with Falkens mounted, and have about 50% useful tread on them as far as I can tell. So it seems a waste to not drive them for awhile yet. I asked the seller and he says that they came off of a 2004.

My first question is: Are the 2004 and 2005 TPMS sensors both compatible with my 2005 Mini Justa TPMS system?

Second question: If I install the "new OEM (2004) wheels and tires" to try to use those tires up, what has to be done to tell the car that the "new" sensors are to be monitored?

Someone in another thread talked about a "stick reset" or something. It seems that various CPU resets are voodoo-magic to me that are not public-knowledge. I bought my car used without a manual, so I can't look there. It's on my "things to buy" list.

Obviously, the easiest to understand (but most time-consuming) solution would be dismounting my current tires from the 2005 OEM rims and swapping everything (including TPMs around) to the 2004 OEM rims.... I am hoping they work the same though. It seems like a lot of effort and money spent monkeying with tires. It feels like I am over-thinking this whole problem. But, I will do all this reconfiguration if that is really my only option.

I just dont understand what makes a TPM tick (ties them all together) and I am not sure what has to be done to sync whatever TPMS I use and the car together...

It is 120 miles to my dealer, so I hate to have to go to them for help.

Thanks tons.

Your gen1 car does not have in tire mounted tppm sensors...
you have a rpm based system where the computer uses the abs sensors to monitor tire rpms...s sunnden change in one tire per mile traveled is seen as a flat or low tire due to the change in size of the tire.
Some VERY late production gen1 mini's did get in rim/tire psi sensors due to government rules, but if you have hardtop pre2006 you are fine...the cabrio's are gen1 in 2007 and 2008, and they got sensors.
So just mount the wheels, reset the sensor and drive. Nothing needed.
The sensor reset button is by the ebrake....
Like i said, no sensors in the tire/rim, just a computer monitoring.

PS
The manual is located in various places in pdf form...you can download it for free.
Just log into miniusa in the ownets lounge with your vin#. There are many changes in 2005 facelift cars from older 2002-2004cars, but 90% of the stuff if the same.

prior to the 2007 model year the TPMS system on MINI did not use any wheel sensors. The TPMS works through the ABS system. A flat is determined by differences in rotation speed of the wheels.

All you should need to do when you swap the wheels is reset the TPMS which is explained in the owners manual- you just need to know the proper time to press the TMPS reset button and how long to hold it.
