Just came across this a little bit ago, it's not to make us feel comfortable but rather to show we're not alone.

My Mini's only 1000 miles old, my fingers are still crossed.

I think its a good thing to take a peek at some of the other forums to gain a bit of perspective. After reading these forums its easy to get the impression that the mini is a p.o.s! There seems to be post after post and thread after thread about various issues with our lovable little car. However, I think that generally speaking the mini is a solid car with good quality and reliability. It is very tight by nature thus prone to rattles and it is the lucky recipient of some cutting edge technologies which always bring a few bugs with them. Remember, the first new mini only came out in 2002. They have been improving in quality ever since and I'm certain the 2nd generation will be even better. The mini hasn't had the luxury of being refined, updated and redesigned over the last 5-15 years like a lot of cars have. Hondas, VWs, Subarus etc. have been using virtually the same engines and components for years steadily improving on them after real world feedback from owners and enthusiasts. A quick peek at forums for Honda, VW, Sub, Ford, Mitsu and so on will show you that there are still a lot of problems with these cars, in fact with all cars. Are some cars more trouble free than others? Of course. But wouldn't it be boring if we all drove Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys because they were judged most reliable? Give me a MINI with all its rattles, quirks, idiosyncrasies and foibles. If I ever stop grinning I might find time to ***** about them.

Yeah, the Subaru Forester is notable for its ever present windshield related issues. I have beenreading about those problems for the past 3 years.

early WRX's had that problem too. Mine's an 02 but with most of the quirks
fixed, so no cracked winshields or any of the problems found on the bug eye
rex's.
