I know i read somewhere that the early year minis had some very bad auto trannys but i cant remember what years to stay away from. can anyone tell if the 2006 auto trans where in that list.

Yes & no. The 06 has the same tranny as the 08 you have listed. There has been some problems with a few cars, but not with mine. I hope this helps. 04 and earlier had the cvt tranny.
