R56 overheating issue
overheating issue
So my 07 r56 mcs is my daily driver, and it's seen a lot of upper 90-low 100 degree days lately. I had the recall performed where they changed out the auxiliary water pump a while back, and my a/c condenser replaced (long story, pretty much had a hole in it). Lately, the really loud aux cooling fan comes on a lot, even on 70 degree nights. Today when I started it up, it didn't idle quite right then hesitated under part throttle then the problem went away after a few miles - no check engine light. The fan was on the entire trip however and when I got home about 50 miles later, the warning "engine hot-drive moderately to decrease engine temp" came on, as I was shutting it off. Is this normal? (I hope not) and what should I do about it? I will certainly be calling the dealer tomorrow, as they've been the ones who've most recently serviced it, I really just don't want to give the car up for a while. Thanks for any help!
Check coolant level. Next, have you ever flushed your coolant? If you've had the original coolant in the car for five years the coolant can break down and leave deposits in your cooling system. It could also be as simple as debris stuck in front of your radiator like leaves.
Do you have a check engine light on? The thermostat is electronic so if you're having issues with that you'll see it in either the pending failure codes or active failure codes. They usually fail in an open position though on the R56.
