Suspension restoring OEM suspension for 2005 Mini S
restoring OEM suspension for 2005 Mini S
Ok, get ready....this is weird. Amongst all the tricked up Minis, which mine started to be: Alta Intake, Alta Exhaust, Planning for a 15% pulley, etc. I have noticed (when I borrow a newer loaner car when mine is in for service) that my ride has deteriorated.....I have "plain Jane" Contis that are pretty good for ride according to Tire Rack....I think I must be getting old and funky (I am turning into my DAD!!!!!!!) Anyone know if its possible to replace all the rubber bushings, etc that are associated with suspension back to OEM New bushings as the ones I have now are probably pretty worn out and hardened.
I know this is *** Backwards from what most tuners are doing and most will laugh and I'll get lots of WTF? I'd appreciate an answer or guess if anyone wants to humor me......
BluDonny in Littleton CO......Son actually works for Mini dealer and has had a JCW (the first edition) and there have been up to four Minis in the family so far.
Thanks

Honestly, I think a lot of people replace many of the bushings with stock replacements. One of the only major things people replace with aftermarket is the Front Lower Control Arm bushings, a lot of people put Powerflex ones in there. But if you want to "revamp" the bushings, you can start with:
Front lower control arm bushings (OEM ones, you can probably get them in the brackets for easier installation)
Front OEM Sway bar bushings
Front Steering Rack Bushing
Rear Trailing arm bushings
Rear Sway bar bushings (but highly recomment upgrading rear sway which will have new bushings)
OEM Front Upper Strut Mounts
OEM Rear strut mounts
I would start with all that and see if that tightens up the ride. I've replaced most of that in mine, only thing I changed was powerflex LCA bushings and HSport rear sway bar bushings, everything else was replaced with OEM.

If you need help in replacing some of those suspension components, take a look at our suspension DIY articles to give you an idea: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...tech_index.htm

I've read that several owners replace their OEM struts with Koni FSD's. They are suppose to provide a more comfortable ride, while remaining sporty.
I have a 2006 MCS and I did replace my front control arm bushings with Powerflex. I believe it tightened up the steering a bit. They are suppose to be more durable as well. We'll see.
Good luck with your mods!
