Turbo.. That gets you up to 200hp on stock internels. Peter at m7 tuning built it and it kicks ***.

Certainly turbo is an option as is nitrous. talk to M7 if you are interested.
For a normally aspirated MC it would be harder to get to 150 HP. Read on.

Hey isykal,
I want the same thing you do, but need to wait til I pay off my MINI. If you're in California, you may want to consider the M7 turbo (forced air induction) as I think it will be Carb legal there. Whereas if you keep your motor naturally aspirated and upgrade that, probably most or many of the upgrades may not be Carb legal in Calif. The M7 turbo (currently under development, but about to be finalized) has a mild boost (i.e., maybe 6 psi or more if I remember right), so (hopefully) will not be too stressful on your engine. It may generate over 150 hp. A high boost gives more power but generates more heat and stress. Your CVT transmission was not designed for that or the engine internals, but appears to be able to handle some increase in hp and torque.
Also, M7 is currently developing light weight parts for the MINI, and that will be a big performance increase. That would also help braking, handling, gas mileage, etc. So, you may want to keep up with his developments and check them out as they come out. For example, if you have had a car before with a small engine, you will know the difference when you are driving by your self or with another passenger or two. Big difference. So, even if you could only knock off 100 lbs, that would be a big improvement. However, it may be possible to knock off 200 lbs or even 300 lbs. The sky may be the limit.
Good luck and keep us informed as to what you do.
