Tire noise!!

Do regular tires give a warning, would be nice to get a howl or some indication from the tires of limits of grip. Maybe I'm being picky or just driving too hard on the country roads... I am trying to wear out these RF Conti's but they do grip surprisingly well, but have no warning at the limits...

Any have comparison with any of the new breed of tires from Kumho, Michelin, or Hankook? I do like the Michelins they grip well, yet only used them on RWD...

What tires are recommended for max grip, thinking it wise to have summer tires and rainy tires too.

Thanks

just changed to Toyo T1 sports from Dunlop Z1, because want more comfort and quiet ride. No regret...even rainy days... Z1 of course has better grip but too noisy.

however, the size is from 215\40\17 Z1 to 215\45\17, not the orginal 205\45\17.

You have to feel that a tire is losing grip. Sound isn't reliable and tends to come after you have exceeded the tire's optimal grip. Summer tires make great rain tires. Some are better than others. See TireRack's tests.

The fastest autocross summer street tires are Dunlop Star Spec, Bridgestone RE-11, Yokahama AD08, Toyo R1R, Kumho Ecsta XS, and Hankook R-S3. Many fast autocrossers favor the Continental DW for rain.

If you want a fast tire that can be used in freezing weather and in light snow, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is outstanding.

Exactly. The stickier the tire, the less "howl" you'd have at the limit anyway. You need to feel when the tire is getting to it's limit. Besides, if you're driving on publics roads to the point where you're exceeding max grip of your tires, you may want to reconsider doing that on the track instead. A good street tire will grip more than anything you'd need for sane street driving.
