'02 MCS - stage 1 fan issue

I believe my car, too, has succumbed to the failed low-speed fan. I have an '02 MCS. I am the original owner and the car has ~61,000 miles.

My question is this - is there a successful fix for this other than replacing the whole fan assembly? It sounds as though the elegant "Vito" fix is not applicable for my car.

I've not seen my temp gauge rise above the middle tick ever. My AC works, and, to be honest, I've sensed no real degradation in the A/C performance. My fear is that by not addressing this soon, I am compromising the life of other under-hood components.

I've read quite a bit thru the thread regarding this, but notice most posts concern the "1 connector" fan. I'm particularly interested in anyone who has experience fixing the '02 style assy; replacement or otherwise.

Many thanks,

Jeff

I replaced the fan assembly on my '02 MCS a couple years ago. I bought it from Rock Auto. TYC brand part #621980. It was a drop-in replacement, no modifications.

My lowspeed fan failed about a year ago but after always running at high speed the fan bearing also failed. Detroit Tuned sells a replacement relay kit bit for just a little bit more I picked up a whole replacement assembly from partgeek.com

The DT solution works (I have it on my car), and their service is second to none. But it is a bit pricey. Close enough to the TYC fan, that I wouldn't blame anyone for going that route. The only reason I went with the DT relay is to keep the quantity of Chinese parts on my car to a minimum. Of course now I have a Chinese relay, but better than I Chinese fan and relay, I suppose. Anyway, I've sourced the part for about half the price. If anyone is interested, PM me over at MU (same username).

I would consider the DT relay assembly as well. No one ever complains that the fan motor is bad, so that seems to be the best route for us '02 and '03ers.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will look into the DT relay assy.

I do question the accuracy within the product description / symptom diagnosis, however. It mentions "...turn the air conditioning on and let the car idle. The fan will run in low speed few a few seconds, every 60 seconds." Is this true??? If this really is the case, I may have to re-evaluate whether my low speed speed truly is not working. Maybe this is true for '02? There seems to be so much conflicting information.
