02 mcs - Front Drivers Side Caliper Replace... Need Help (from a mini NOOB)

Hey Guys,

Just purchased an 02 Mini and after putting 1k miles on her, I have this brake caliper leak.

I didn't get a chance to get under the car yet, it appears as it may be leaking from around the bleeder valve.

I have lost all brake pressure and limped her home today on the E-Brake.

The crappy shop I took it to at lunch (to diagnose what this crap was that was sprayed around my wheel - originally I thought was grease...) says that it needs a replace, I'm skeptical, but until I look at it myself I won't know.

Going to get under the car tomorrow, ordered another caliper, does anyone have any pointers or suggestions for swapping out the caliper or bleeding this brake system that is MINI specific?

I'm bleed the brakes on older vehicles mr2's, fairly simple, but all the brake lines under the hood here have me wondering about this car...

I don't have a Bentley manual yet, and would hope to get the car fixed quicker than it would take for one to be shipped to me.

Can somebody point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Mike

nothing special in the brakes of a MINI

even wrt the ABS issues when bleeding - they are not unique - but just the same issues for any abs system . . .

been doing my own brakes on my 79 02 and 07 since day one

great! thanks for the information. Not scared to delv in now

Something I find odd though.... is the left drivers caliper was leaking, but after taking to the shop there were NO brakes. Front or rear. I thought there was a valve in there to switch between front and rear in case of a failure?
