Paint chip repair
Paint chip repair
So a week after getting my spotless "new to me" 08 MCS I ended up behind some idiot on a cell phone on the highway. While not paying attention, they swerved all the way into the shoulder. My baby ended up getting a face full of roadside grit and needless to say had a few ugly chips.
After a few days reading up online I decided to get some touch up pens from expresspaint.com. And opted to use a veriation of the well know langka method
Today I tackled the repair and am very happy with the results.
I started by marking all the chips with masking tape. Wanted to make sure. I got them all. Then I cleaned the area with some degreaser I got with the paint. Then I used a toothpick to apply the paint to each chip. I let dry for and hour and then gave a second coat.
Once the second coat had dried for about 2 hours, I took clay bar to each chip. By no means did I completely remove each blob but the end results are almost complete invisible even in direct light. I've got to get within about 1/2 feet to find the chips.
